Our Big FAT Greek Escape – Greece

Thinking about a Wonderful World trip to Greece raised my levels of anxiety…just a little.
One: I was not so much of a beach person.
Two: I was a bit sceptical about Greece living up to all the amazing brochures that I had seen since I was a liitle girl.
And, three: because of the Greece economy crisis that seems like an odyssey without end.
I am super happy to report that all my fears were unfounded, it’s a dream vacation place and the tourist economy is thriving…if the prices are anything to go by!!
My quest was to find intresting places and not just hit all the tourist hotspots like most other package holidays would do.
I found my answers on mainland Greece and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Join us as we explore Athens, visit the stunning monasteries at Meteora and then soak up some sun and stunning sunsets on the islands of Mykonos and Santorini.

We hate cookie cutter itineraries, and what we offer is a mix of the quintessential Grecian holiday and few off-beat experiences to make your trip complete. We have handpicked, 3 star / 4 star or boutique hotels in central locations

We start our trip off in Athens, and just like Atlas, who carried the world on his shoulders, Athens carries a huge responsibilty to live up to the expectations of its visitors.
After all, its not called the historical capital of Europe for nothing!
Athens has been the center of Greek civilization for 4000 years. It’s an ancient city, still dominated by 5th century landmarks like the Acropolis and the Parthenon temple.
It’s an edgy, cosmopoliton, grungy, graceful, bustling, modern yet ancient city. You have to visit it to understand the vibe that is so uniquely Athens.

Then we drive to Kalambaka in Meteora. Meteora symbolises man’s aspirations to connect with the divine. There is something about high cliffs and monasteries!
High above the Meteora Landscape in Greece’s central region, monks and Nuns live in fabled monastries, perched on the edge of sandstone peaks.
The landscape is beautiful, with windswept monoliths rise abruptly from the earth, and with vertical cliffs forming a dramatic backdrop against flat land. Most run of the mill tourists don’t get to see this part of Greece but we think it’s a must-see!

And, if one does not visit Mykonos and Santorini, then we think a Grecian holiday is incomplete.
Mykonos and Santorini – part of the cycalades islands, are jewels of the Aegean sea.

We spend a night in Mykonos – the great glamour island of Greece – with it’s tiny winding lanes, is incredibly charming .
Santorini evokes images of whitewashed, cubist houses clinging precariously to rugged cliffs, overlooking the bluest sparkling indigo waters that is the Aegean.
It is calm and soothing to the soul, the sunsets make even the most stone-hearted feel something!
We stay in the Caldera in Imergovigli, Santorini – where you can see the gorgeous sunsets that Santorini is famous for from the hotel, without millions of tourists taking away from that picture-perfect view.

So, if it is swimming in balmy seas, watching incomparable sunsets that speak to your soul, and sitting out under the stars with fun-loving women or by yourself, that floats your boat, join us.

Break for lunch in a local taverna
Then we proceed to the Acropolis musuem and head back to the hotel

Evening at leisure

1st October – (includes breakfast only)

If you like to holiday like us – then you need this free day to just stroll around on your own and soak in the place.
Our hotel is very centrally located.

However if you would rather pack in your holiday and see as much as possible – then we can suggest two optional tours that we can discuss at the time of booking.
(Either the full day – Four Island Cruise, including Hydra, Poros and Aegina or the hald day trip to Cape Sounion)

2nd October – (includes breakfast and lunch)

Today we drive to Meteora. (about 8 hours with all the stops included)
We will stop at the Delphi Archaeolgical site. (we will not be visiting the musuem at the Delhi site – but will be visiting the site itself.)

Reach Meteora by the evening.
Check into Hotel Doupiani – and relax.

3rd October – Meteora (includes breakfast and lunch)

Walk the tiny lanes, take a million photos, visit the cutest shops, it’s such a treat – we love Mykonos!
It has so much more than just the parties that it is famour for.

Overnight at Porto Mykonos Hotel

6th October – (includes breakfast and dinner)

Dinner at a restaurant in Oia and then back to the hotel

Overnight at Andromeda Villas

7th October – Santorini (includes breakfast)

Again in keeping with how we like to plan holidays – this is a free day so you can explore the things that interest you or relax and take in the stunning views from your hotel.

– There are a few organised excursions we could book for you – The Caldera Morning boat tour
– Or an Archaeological Bus Tour to Akrotiri Excavation

– Or as I would suggest – just take it easy today – visit Red beach or Kamari Beach and the town of Fira. Catch the sunset from your hotel – as the most gorgeous sunset that I saw in Santorini was from a cliff in Imergovigli and not he famed Oia sunset – simply because of the lack of crowds.

8th October –(includes breakfast)

Head Back to Athens and fly out
